The Fox Valley Irish Fest committee says THANK YOU from the bottom of our collective Irish fest heart. We have succeeded together - organizers, performers, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees - in celebrating Irish culture for 16 years while supporting St. Catherine's. 2011's was the last of the fests. We are left with images and memories: smiling faces, sunshine, great food and camaraderie, dancing, wee folk fun and crafts, music - from the hauntingly beautiful to the rousing table-pounding; joyous crowds under the big top on Saturday night, worshiping together in that same space Sunday morning. Two particular moments seared into my musical memory: Paul Baker of Brigids Cross using a transcendent version of Over The Rainbow as a salve for personal sorrow, and Tardu of The Fenians' sax solo on Mustang Sally. The stage where he stood was scorched the next day. Sláinte! Dan Biggins, 2011 Irish Fest Chairman on behalf of the Fox Valley Irish Fest Committee |
